Tesla became the first car company in the world to support bitcoin payment.

According to Tesla's US official website, users can choose to pay in bitcoin when they buy a vehicle. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, also said on social media that it is now possible to buy Tesla with bitcoin. However, Tesla only uses internal open source software to operate bitcoin nodes directly. Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as bitcoin and will not be converted into legal tender.

According to Tesla's US official website, at present, only domestic customers in the United States are supported to use bitcoin for payment, and new markets will be considered in the future.

Musk and Tesla have been behind bitcoin's surge for many times this year. After musk updated his profile to "bitcoin", bitcoin rose 18%. Prior to that, Tesla officials said that they wanted to accept bitcoin as the payment method, and bought $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin in January for strategic investment. This news made bitcoin soar that day, with an increase of more than 13% within one hour. In less than a month, Tesla gained nearly $1 billion in floating profits by investing in bitcoin.
